Ad of the month October: McDonald’s Banksy stunt

It’s that time of the month again where we show you our favourite ad of the month.

It’s been a difficult choice this month, there have been some good ads, but the cream of the crop for us is the impressive take on the Banksy shredding stunt by the creative agency TBWA\ANG.

You might have seen it earlier this month when one of Banksy’s famous paintings of the Balloon Girl was sold at auction for £860,000 and moments later Banksy half shredded the piece by using a shredder that was built into the frame after it was sold.

What the agency has done is use this to their advantage and created an ad which mimics the half-shredded piece of art which is a perfect example of capitalising on pop culture and turning around quick masterpieces that engage with what’s going on in the world and these trending moments.

As you can see what the agency has done is use this to their advantage and have created an image of an upside-down fries’ box with fries as the shredded part of the painting. They’ve created something simple yet so effective and still managed to stick to McDonald’s minimalism-themed marketing they’ve been doing for a number of years.

It was some quick thinking that helped McDonald’s jump onto this new story that attracted a lot of attention, which is why they’ve won our ad of the month.
